Beyond the Map
Beyond the Map brings the favelas—long left off official maps—into focus for the 2016 Olympics. Through this project, we used technology to map the favelas and share endearing stories highlighting the resilience of these vibrant communities and inspiring people.

Step inside Rio’s favelas in 360º
Come with us inside the favelas of Rio to meet some truly incredible people. Using Google Maps, Street View, Earth View and YouTube 360 we take you deep into this city within a city like never before. The experience will change the way you see the favelas forever.
Danger, hopes & dreams
There’s no question that the favelas are dangerous. But one thing becomes abundantly clear when you spend time inside. The favelas are a tight knit community of fiercely passionate people with big hopes and daring dreams.
